Reactive power control relays are designed to reduce the reactive power (inductive and capacitive) not used by the load and taken from the grid. If inductive power is taken from the grid, it intervenes by removing a capacitor of the appropriate value. If capacitive power is taken from the grid, it intervenes by removing a shunt reactor of the appropriate value. It attempts in this way to reduce the inductive/active and capacitive/active rate in the system. It is designed to provide a more reasonable compensation for asymmetrical inductive and capacitive systems with RGT-MT18 TCR stages.
